Sending pace and message variations

See what's waiting to go out when a post takes off, choose a slower hourly limit, and send an automation's DM in different wordings.

Sidebar: Account → Settings → Sending pace. It appears only where it's switched on for your workspace.

When a post takes off, more people comment than HyperDM sends in an hour, so replies wait. This page shows what's waiting and lets you slow things down.

Under Right now:

NumberWhat it counts
Used in the last hourInstagram sends in the last hour against your hourly limit, counting tries that then failed, as the limit does.
Comment replies waitingComment replies queued to go out. Each can wait up to Instagram's 7-day limit.
Other events waitingComments and messages HyperDM has received and will try again.
Time to clear the queue, at the earliestHow soon the comment replies queued now that can go out will have gone. With a lower limit, a reply only goes while everything sent in the last hour is under it, so a busy hour holds them back. Replies to a paused automation are shown as paused, and replies to a deleted one as won't send; neither is in the time, and if some would pass Instagram's 7-day limit at this pace, the page says how many. Events still being processed, new messages and other accounts' queues aren't counted, and can only make it later. Instead of a time it can say Paused (your workspace or the automations are paused), None will send (the queued replies belong to deleted automations), None before Instagram's 7-day limit, or Too many queued to estimate (more than 50,000 queued; the 7-day warning is left out then too).

If a warning appears, some replies passed Instagram's 7-day limit or some events were given up on after repeated retries in the last 24 hours.

Slow down

  1. Under Slow down, choose a limit: 100, 50 or 25 an hour.
  2. It applies from the next send. Choose Normal to go back.

A lower limit slows only an automation's replies to comments. They send through a queue, oldest first. Keep in mind:

  • People wait longer for their DM. A public reply saying you've sent a DM still posts straight away, so it can arrive before the DM.
  • If the limit is too low for a busy post, some replies can pass Instagram's 7-day limit and never be sent.
  • Other DMs, story replies and your own replies from the Inbox keep the normal limit, but they count towards the hour too, so comment replies slow down further while those are busy.
  • Flows started by a comment, including ones from an ad, keep the normal limit.

The normal limit is HyperDM's own pacing limit. Meta doesn't publish a safe number, and no setting can promise how Instagram treats an account.

Send a DM in different wordings

  1. Open Automations and click Results on the automation's row.
  2. Under Other ways to say it, write another wording. Click Add another for up to 3.
  3. Click Save. They apply from the next send, without publishing.

Each send uses one wording or your original message, and links are added the same way to each. Merge tags work as they do in your message, but aren't checked when you save here, so a mistyped tag shows as written.

To remove a wording, clear its box and click Save.
